The Whole World Is In Mourning, Have A Little Respect Or Shut Up
The tsunami and earthquake tragedy that struck Japan more than a week ago made a lot of people ask the BIG question: "Is the world coming to an end?" You can't blame those who ponder on that, with so many disasters happening, especially in the past two years. It saddens me, to read and hear about those who have lost their loved ones and lost their homes.
I read about so about how they deserved it because of the whale and dolphin killings. REALLY??!! That really made me angry! How can they be so ignorant and insensetive? Yes, it's true that the whale and dolphin killings were cruel, but that doesn't mean Japan had to go through such a tragedy to pay back for it. No one, and I mean NO ONE deserve to go through that. To those people out there who think they deserved it, SHAME ON YOU!!
Here is a list of natural disasters that happened around the world in just this year. (Jan 2011 - March 2011)
Did all those people deserve that too? Is it really necessary to say that just because of a group of people have done a cruel act, that everyone else should pay for it?! If you say yes, I'm sorry to say this, but you are a sick, sick person and you should get some help. Or maybe just go bury yourself in dog poo.
Some say all these are happening due to the next coming of Jesus Christ, some are saying that people have sinned too much and God wants us to repent, some are saying that disasters are happening due to the over-population in the world, some are saying that the movie '2012' is actually 'true', some says that the world is too weak and old and is time to die, some are saying that natural disasters happen every year and this year is no exception, some are even saying that aliens are coming.
Whatever you chose to believe in, just don't ever say that "they deserve to go through a natural disaster and lose their loved ones/homes, etc because they are cruel. It's kind of 'country-ist'. Don't generalize. People are not types of chocolate.
To those who have been directly or indirectly affected by any of the tragedies, you have my deepest sympathy and my prayers.
R.I.P to those who have lost their lives.

A Housemate From Hell
I think my housemate is a psychopath. Or at least, a potential psychopath. Or whatever- he's a housemate from Hell. When he is around, I just feel uncomfortable, almost nervous. The things he do aren't very psychopathic, but it's the small little things added up together that makes me think there is a darker, evil side of him. Oh and that day I heard him singing a Celine Dion song in the shower. Loud. At 9.28AM.
He leaves plates after plates of half eaten food on the kitchen counter, sometimes for days. And that once that pissed me off the most - he left bacon fat stips on the cutting board out on the kitchen counter for 2 whole days. Plates, pots, pans and utensils are always left unwashed. And when he does finally wash it, he washes it with soap then doesn't wash the soap off and leaves it to dry. That means each time I use anything from the kitchen, even a freaking tea sponn, I'd have to wash it first. And I really wish he would stop using my stuff if he doesn't know the basic rule of putting them back where he found them. Once he had a party and without asking, he used my pots, my salt & pepper shakers, my lime juice, tomato & bbq sauce, potato masher and cheese grater as well as my baking trays and then left them dirty everywhere around the house for 2 days! See, I don't mind if my housemates uses my stuff, as long as they respect it and clean it then put it back to where they got it from. Be considerate and besides - it's comman sense!!
He curses all the time. *Enter curse words here* And I mean really bad curse words. Sometimes early in the morning, when I'm still daydreaming on the bed at 8.30 or 9 in the morning, I'd hear him stomping on the floor, slamming the doors and cursing really loud. It just ruins the day for me. I especially feel sorry for the doors. What have they ever done to him? And - furthermore, what can he possibly be sooooo pissed off about THAT early in the morning? Did he wake up forgetting some Celine Dion songs lines?
He says the most inappopriate and dumb jokes. For an example, last weekend the hubby and I decided to go to Woolies to get milk and cereal for breakfast the next day. As we were walking out, Mr.Dumb Housemate said, "Oh yeah, you guys are actually going out for the munchies, aren't you?" and snickered. I wanted to punch that look off his face, and I don't even like violence. I wanted to yell, "Just because it is late and we were going to the supermarket, that doesn't mean we're crack heads like you. Why don't you just go back into your room and sing some emo songs and shoot yourself in the toes, you tiny little prick!"
Oh and did I mention, he doesn't sleep in his room, he hordes the living room (so this means the hubby and the other housemate and I don't spend any time whatsoever in the living room like normal people) he sleeps on the couch in the living room, and told us, "I can't sleep on a bed unless I have a warm body next to me." Gross image dude. And totally weird. It's already bad enough that he sometimes walk around the house in his tiny little tight red underwear, and laughs when I turn around and walk the other way, but he also has this habit of walking around shirtless and then asks me if he is getting more muscular or more tan. Sometimes I just want to high fly kick him in his face (If I could, I would) and tell him to bugger off, because he reminds me of an annoying praying mantis.
This guy is 30 years old, but I feel like he's 10. He's a PHD student in some bio-chemistry thingy and he still doesn't know basic things in life and living in a share house.
So, is he a psychopath? Maybe.
But is he a douchebag? Definitely.

Happy Chinese New Year 2011 - Year of the Rabbit
Happy Chinese New Year everyone!
There will be a lot of gambling, where the adults will usually play mahjong and the teenagers or kids will play clards. But every where you go, you see laughter, joy, happiness and even strangers are generally nice to you. I guess now that I am not in Malaysia anymore and am unable to celebrate Chinese New Year with my family and friends, the thing that I miss the most is spending time together with my family and friends. I guess, in most ways that is the only thing that makes a celebration a true celebration.
When I was young, obviously the food and the 'ang pows' were the most important thing. But now that I am older and wiser, those things are no longer as important. What's important now is spending time together with your loved ones and making every minute count. Because, honestly what's Chinese New Year without family and friends? It's just another day in the week.
So, we Chinese celebrate Chinese New Year, but not all of us know what each tradition means as we were brought up with it since young. Sadly most traditions have died as we are now more modern and think that traditions are just 'old wives tales'. Well, a lot of my friends ask me what Chinese New Year is and why is it so important, and even more - how is it celebrated?
Chinese New Year is the most important festival in the Chinese culture. It is celebrated on the new moon of the first month according to the lunar calendar (hence the name), and it is a time for family reunions and scrumptious feasts. Chinese New Year traditionally lasts from the first day to the 15th day of the New Year (which is Lantern Festival) Also, on the eve of the Chinese New Year is celebrated as the 'Eve of the Passing Year'. It's a tradition to go back to your hometown (in my case, it's where my grandparents live) and have a huge family dinner. We call this our 'annual family reunion'.
A lot of people probably don't know this (even me until about half an hour ago), but Chinese New Year has had influences from other cultures such as the Vietnamese, Koreans, Tibetans, Mongolians and the Bhutanese.
The Chinese New Year is a chance to leave the problems of the previous year behind. It is important to start the New Year fresh, and this means cleaning up the house and buying new clothes. Houses are decorated with red banners which have auspicious couplets written on them such as "happiness", "luck", "health & longevity" and "prosperity". These are hung around doorways and are intended to bring luck to the household for the coming year. (and the 'Prosperity God')
Red is a very important color in Chinese culture, symbolizing prosperity. Many people will wear red clothes during the New Year celebrations, and houses will have many red decorations such as Chinese knot work and lanterns. Some house will also go as far as have red lights and streamers decorated all around the house.
"Ang Pows" or red envelopes are given to children or to those who are unmarried. In those "ang pows" contain money which totals an even number, for an example $20. The number "4" in Chinese means "death" which is why an "ang pow" should never contain anything with "4", for an example $4, $40 or $400.
The reason why fireworks and crackers are so popular during this festive season, beside the fact that it's fun and beautiful, is also because loud noises scares of evil spirits. This is why for the entire 15 days, our sky is lighted up with beautiful fireworks displays.
Another tradition that my family follows is that during the Chinese New Year celebration, you are not allowed to clean the house, ie: sweep the floor. The reason behind this is that you're sweeping away the good luck that the God of Prosperity has brought in. This is why the day before Chinese New Year, the whole house is cleaned, scrubbed, mopped, wiped, swept and practically polished.
My grandmother also used to frown at us if we wore anything black during Chinese New Year. Black symbolises death and bad luck, that is why Chinese (especially children) don't wear anything black for any reunions.
Also, during Chinese New Year, we were told to never swear or curse and not to say anything like "I have no money", or "I am unlucky". This will attract bad spirits to you, and for the remaining of the year, you will have bad luck.
However you celebrate Chinese New Year and whatever traditions you and your family follows, I wish you a Happy Chinese New Year and may your New Year bring you good health, prosperity, happiness and love. To those who are travelling back to see your loved ones, drive safe. Just remember, Chinese New Year is all about being together with your family, friends and loved ones. The food/money/gambling is just a plus point. LOL. To those who are unable to spend Chinese New Year with their loved ones due to work, travelling or whatever other reasons, don't despair. Just play some Chinese New Year songs and cook yourself a homecook Chinese New Year dish you're used to.

The Sun Is Going To Eat Me
It's so hot out there!
I feel like the sun is about to goble me up whole! Seriously, it's like 32 degrees right now and I can't even think straight. Oh Winter, I'll never bitch about you ever again. Please come back to me.
On the plus side, my dress finally arrived! Woot! I bought a dress from ebay and I'm so super excited! It's a pink halter neck dress with a very nice blue sash that ties in a bow on the back. The back part of the dress has a longer hemline than the front and it's double layer with the inner layer in hot pink and the top layer in baby pink. It's a little loose on me, though it was supposed to be a Medium size, but it's too pretty for me to worry too much about it.
Ain't it pretty? I'm gonna save it for Valentine's Day! *crosses fingers* Hopes the husband takes me somewhere nice.And now, I'm going to devour a bowl of chocolate & honeycomb ice cream, sit in front of the air con and watch The Big Bang Theory.

And that once that pissed me off the most - he left bacon fat stips on the cutting board out on the kitchen counter for 2 whole days. Plates, pots, pans and utensils are always left unwashed. And when he does finally wash it, he washes it with soap then doesn't wash the soap off and leaves it to dry. That means each time I use anything from the kitchen, even a freaking tea sponn, I'd have to wash it first. And I really wish he would stop using my stuff if he doesn't know the basic rule of putting them back where he found them. Once he had a party and without asking, he used my pots, my salt & pepper shakers, my lime juice, tomato & bbq sauce, potato masher and cheese grater as well as my baking trays and then left them dirty everywhere around the house for 2 days! See, I don't mind if my housemates uses my stuff, as long as they respect it and clean it then put it back to where they got it from. Be considerate and besides - it's comman sense!!
He curses all the time. *Enter curse words here* And I mean really bad curse words. Sometimes early in the morning, when I'm still daydreaming on the bed at 8.30 or 9 in the morning, I'd hear him stomping on the floor, slamming the doors and cursing really loud. It just ruins the day for me. I especially feel sorry for the doors. What have they ever done to him? And - furthermore, what can he possibly be sooooo pissed off about THAT early in the morning? Did he wake up forgetting some Celine Dion songs lines?
He says the most inappopriate and dumb jokes. For an example, last weekend the hubby and I decided to go to Woolies to get milk and cereal for breakfast the next day. As we were walking out, Mr.Dumb Housemate said, "Oh yeah, you guys are actually going out for the munchies, aren't you?" and snickered. I wanted to punch that look off his face, and I don't even like violence. I wanted to yell, "Just because it is late and we were going to the supermarket, that doesn't mean we're crack heads like you. Why don't you just go back into your room and sing some emo songs and shoot yourself in the toes, you tiny little prick!"
Oh and did I mention, he doesn't sleep in his room, he hordes the living room (so this means the hubby and the other housemate and I don't spend any time whatsoever in the living room like normal people) he sleeps on the couch in the living room, and told us, "I can't sleep on a bed unless I have a warm body next to me." Gross image dude. And totally weird. It's already bad enough that he sometimes walk around the house in his tiny little tight red underwear, and laughs when I turn around and walk the other way, but he also has this habit of walking around shirtless and then asks me if he is getting more muscular or more tan. Sometimes I just want to high fly kick him in his face (If I could, I would) and tell him to bugger off, because he reminds me of an annoying praying mantis.
This guy is 30 years old, but I feel like he's 10. He's a PHD student in some bio-chemistry thingy and he still doesn't know basic things in life and living in a share house.
So, is he a psychopath? Maybe.
But is he a douchebag? Definitely.

Happy Chinese New Year 2011 - Year of the Rabbit
Happy Chinese New Year everyone!
There will be a lot of gambling, where the adults will usually play mahjong and the teenagers or kids will play clards. But every where you go, you see laughter, joy, happiness and even strangers are generally nice to you. I guess now that I am not in Malaysia anymore and am unable to celebrate Chinese New Year with my family and friends, the thing that I miss the most is spending time together with my family and friends. I guess, in most ways that is the only thing that makes a celebration a true celebration.
When I was young, obviously the food and the 'ang pows' were the most important thing. But now that I am older and wiser, those things are no longer as important. What's important now is spending time together with your loved ones and making every minute count. Because, honestly what's Chinese New Year without family and friends? It's just another day in the week.
So, we Chinese celebrate Chinese New Year, but not all of us know what each tradition means as we were brought up with it since young. Sadly most traditions have died as we are now more modern and think that traditions are just 'old wives tales'. Well, a lot of my friends ask me what Chinese New Year is and why is it so important, and even more - how is it celebrated?
Chinese New Year is the most important festival in the Chinese culture. It is celebrated on the new moon of the first month according to the lunar calendar (hence the name), and it is a time for family reunions and scrumptious feasts. Chinese New Year traditionally lasts from the first day to the 15th day of the New Year (which is Lantern Festival) Also, on the eve of the Chinese New Year is celebrated as the 'Eve of the Passing Year'. It's a tradition to go back to your hometown (in my case, it's where my grandparents live) and have a huge family dinner. We call this our 'annual family reunion'.
A lot of people probably don't know this (even me until about half an hour ago), but Chinese New Year has had influences from other cultures such as the Vietnamese, Koreans, Tibetans, Mongolians and the Bhutanese.
The Chinese New Year is a chance to leave the problems of the previous year behind. It is important to start the New Year fresh, and this means cleaning up the house and buying new clothes. Houses are decorated with red banners which have auspicious couplets written on them such as "happiness", "luck", "health & longevity" and "prosperity". These are hung around doorways and are intended to bring luck to the household for the coming year. (and the 'Prosperity God')
Red is a very important color in Chinese culture, symbolizing prosperity. Many people will wear red clothes during the New Year celebrations, and houses will have many red decorations such as Chinese knot work and lanterns. Some house will also go as far as have red lights and streamers decorated all around the house.
"Ang Pows" or red envelopes are given to children or to those who are unmarried. In those "ang pows" contain money which totals an even number, for an example $20. The number "4" in Chinese means "death" which is why an "ang pow" should never contain anything with "4", for an example $4, $40 or $400.
The reason why fireworks and crackers are so popular during this festive season, beside the fact that it's fun and beautiful, is also because loud noises scares of evil spirits. This is why for the entire 15 days, our sky is lighted up with beautiful fireworks displays.
Another tradition that my family follows is that during the Chinese New Year celebration, you are not allowed to clean the house, ie: sweep the floor. The reason behind this is that you're sweeping away the good luck that the God of Prosperity has brought in. This is why the day before Chinese New Year, the whole house is cleaned, scrubbed, mopped, wiped, swept and practically polished.
My grandmother also used to frown at us if we wore anything black during Chinese New Year. Black symbolises death and bad luck, that is why Chinese (especially children) don't wear anything black for any reunions.
Also, during Chinese New Year, we were told to never swear or curse and not to say anything like "I have no money", or "I am unlucky". This will attract bad spirits to you, and for the remaining of the year, you will have bad luck.
However you celebrate Chinese New Year and whatever traditions you and your family follows, I wish you a Happy Chinese New Year and may your New Year bring you good health, prosperity, happiness and love. To those who are travelling back to see your loved ones, drive safe. Just remember, Chinese New Year is all about being together with your family, friends and loved ones. The food/money/gambling is just a plus point. LOL. To those who are unable to spend Chinese New Year with their loved ones due to work, travelling or whatever other reasons, don't despair. Just play some Chinese New Year songs and cook yourself a homecook Chinese New Year dish you're used to.

The Sun Is Going To Eat Me
It's so hot out there!
I feel like the sun is about to goble me up whole! Seriously, it's like 32 degrees right now and I can't even think straight. Oh Winter, I'll never bitch about you ever again. Please come back to me.
On the plus side, my dress finally arrived! Woot! I bought a dress from ebay and I'm so super excited! It's a pink halter neck dress with a very nice blue sash that ties in a bow on the back. The back part of the dress has a longer hemline than the front and it's double layer with the inner layer in hot pink and the top layer in baby pink. It's a little loose on me, though it was supposed to be a Medium size, but it's too pretty for me to worry too much about it.
Ain't it pretty? I'm gonna save it for Valentine's Day! *crosses fingers* Hopes the husband takes me somewhere nice.And now, I'm going to devour a bowl of chocolate & honeycomb ice cream, sit in front of the air con and watch The Big Bang Theory.
